The executive of the Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre (DMCC) has highlighted the success of Dubai's Gold and Jewellery Group.

Gold traders in the emirate all benefit from the group which was set up in the 1990s and was a landmark initiative for Dubai's gold trade.

Tawfique Abdullah, who created the group explained to Gulf News Online: "The group has come a long way since the mid-1990s. Traders are now in tune with international trade and practices. Every year, we attract millions of residents and tourists to our outlets who are offered the best products and services in gold, diamond and jewellery."

"The Gold Souq has become a destination of its own and adds to Dubai's attractions. "I am happy to see that the group has made solid progress," he added.

However even though Dubai has seen such huge success in its gold industry, Mr Abdullah believes that more can be achieved.

New moves to promote gold trade include a Gold Advisory Committee and a service to launch the Annual Gold Survey in Arabic.

As well as this Dubai gold trade will be showcased for the first time at Baselword, the number one trade show for gold and jewellery around the world.
