Gold jewellery demand following fashion trends

New research has shown consumers are becoming more demanding when they choose jewellery and are using items as a fashion statement rather than a symbol of status.<BR/><BR/>MINTEL and the National Jewellery Steering Group which carried out the report claimed consumers were influenced by fashion trends and an appreciation for quality and innovative designs.<BR/><BR/>The 2004 MINTEL Precious Metal Jewellery Report found a strong demand in higher carat gold and increased growth in white gold wedding rings.<BR/><BR/>Mr Hoare, chief executive of the National Association of Goldsmiths (NAG), and chairman of the NJSG told the Scotsman: "These are exciting times for the jewellery industry. <BR/><BR/>"Fashion is now an increasingly important driver in the business and the industry must rise to the challenge and become more innovative and fashion-conscious."<BR/><BR/>Findings also suggested a strong preference for yellow gold has prevailed in the market and now consumers are willing to spend more to get the particular items they want.<BR/><BR/>In addition figures showed women were more likely to buy precious metal jewellery themselves, although men's jewellery sales have seen a considerable increase.
