Thursday, 15th April 2004 (5204 views) A host of ancient gold jewellery will form part of a new Mayan collection on show in Washington this month.<BR/><BR/>The 'Courtly Art of the Ancient Maya' exhibition will display a number of Mayan artefacts including the most extensive showcase of Mayan jewellery ever seen in the US, according to the Home Forum.<BR/><BR/>Reportedly Mayan designs all reflected the idea of being divine and sophisticated, mixing well with the luxury of the precious metal gold.<BR/><BR/>Some of the items include a mirror made of pyrite - fool's gold, designed in a way to resemble turtle shells and were seen as item owned by the nobility.<BR/><BR/>The works of art come from collections from Mexico, Central America, Europe, and the US and will be on shown in The National Gallery of Art.
