Thursday, 13th May 2004 (6014 views) US retail executives are optimistic about future sales according to April's Retail Sector Performance Index (RSPI).<BR/><BR/>The positive outlook could see jewellery sales increase and stop the need for huge discounts to be made on products.<BR/><BR/>Tracy Mullin, president and CEO of the National Retail Federation (NRF) told National Jeweler: "Now that retailers have more control over pricing, they are in the driver's seat.<BR/><BR/>"Consumers will still be able to find great deals, but retailers will be able to strategically mark down merchandise instead of offering sweeping discounts to reduce inventories."<BR/><BR/>The NRF's Executive Opinion Survey measures opinion on customer traffic, monthly sales, average transaction per customer, inventories and employment.<BR/><BR/>April's index ranking was up 10.5 points compared to the year before at 58.2, on the scale 50.0 is rated as normal.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=2615626"/>
