Bollywood actresses are helping to promote gold jewellery, with many having nearly every item of their jewellery supplied by a creative Mumbai designer.

Vinay Chhadwa provides designs for stars including Rani and Bipasha Basu and model-turned-actress Diana Hayden.

In addition items from his collection have appeared in Indian television programmes and fashion shows.

According to Mr Chhadwa, each star has their own distinct style when selecting their pieces, Rani Mukherjee chooses a "larger-than-life look and anything that is different and new".

"We keep in mind her personality and frame when we make designs to Rani's specifications. Ornate pieces with great details usually go down well with her," Mr Chhadwa told Sify.

As jewellery becomes increasingly important, Bengali beauties are now being seen in a traditional sari or salwar suit, covered in gold, pink, black or blue jewellery in kundan or meena work.
