Wednesday, 16th June 2004 (4446 views) The latest gold rush area in Compostela Valley is in the middle of a battle between mining firms.<BR/><BR/>At least two big mining companies have now claimed they have mining rights for Mt De Oro in Barangay village, according to the Inquirer News Service.<BR/><BR/>Governor Jose Caballero reportedly told a local radio station that Apex Mining and North Davao Mining both claim to have rights.<BR/><BR/>The ability for gold mining in the area was only discovered a few weeks ago when trekkers were scaling the site, following this hundreds of miners have flocked to the area.<BR/><BR/>Mr Caballero claimed he had taken action with the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PRMB) and asked it to take measure to ensure "chaos" does not occur in response to the claims.<BR/><BR/>It is thought the provincial government will want to prevent any dispute since it expects small-scale miners will not agree with the claims.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=2839871"/>
