Monday, 28th June 2004 (6584 views) A set of commemorative gold rings has been unveiled for US athletes competing in the Olympics.

U.S. Olympic Team Supplier and Licensee O.C. Tanner Company has created the items which are each custom-cut with the athlete's name and venue pictogram.

Each piece features an arch design on each side, which is to represent the entrance arch leading into the original Olympic stadium and the ring shanks resemble ancient Greek pillars.

Garth Bruner, O.C. Tanner ring designer explained: "The design fuses the historic Olympic Games with an ultra-modern look that can be worn, not only as a symbol of achieving a dream, but as a beautiful piece of jewellery."

O.C. Tanner also designed and made rings for the US Paralympic team and the US Delegation and around 1,700 rings will be handmade by workers at Tanner for the Olympics.

Those athletes who win gold medals will also have the chance to have "Gold Medallist" inscribed on their rings if they choose to do so.
