Wednesday, 14th July 2004 (5817 views) A new collection has been launched by French jewellery designer Medina Smith's Sucre line.<BR/><BR/>The new pieces include couture gemstone jewellery with unusually cut shapes including checkerboards, twisted drops and spirals.<BR/><BR/>However Ms Smith is more concerned with accessorising rather than being innovative, claiming: "I simply wanted to create gemstone jewellery as couture as my Jimmy Choos."<BR/><BR/>Sucre has changed its approach with this new collection, turning to the use of precious metals such as matte 24 carat gold, whilst still including its signature precision gemstone cuts.<BR/><BR/>The line has also recently been nominated for a Best Designer - Accessories award in one of the largest international fashion competitions in the world.<BR/><BR/>Prices for the designs range from $45 to $1300 and items are sold online and through showrooms in the US and France.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=3026647"/>
