Tuesday, 24th August 2004 (6167 views) Orkney based jewellery company Ortak is to extend its business further into the UK market, under a new £1.4 million investment programme.<BR/><BR/>The project for the 37-year-old firm is being funded by £400,000 from Orkney Enterprise.<BR/><BR/>Managing director, Alistair Gray, told the Scotsman: "As with most other jewellery manufacturers, we have seen increased competition in recent years from foreign imports. To compete effectively we have to enhance our product range. <BR/><BR/>"We have to reposition ourselves as a fashion-led designer of contemporary jewellery, selling and marketing our products to the wider UK market."<BR/><BR/>The company is currently the largest designer and manufacturer of gold jewellery in Scotland.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=3274471"/>
