A gold Viking arm ring has been discovered in York by a man who was searching through his late father's belongings.<BR/><BR/>The item is only the second one to be found in Britain and is now on display in the British Museum.<BR/><BR/>According to the BBC, the ring is 95 per cent gold and is being studied by researchers in the museum.<BR/><BR/>Simon Holmes, of the National Portable Antiquities Scheme at the Yorkshire Museum said: "The only other similar example to be found in Britain was found in Goodrington in Devon and I believe our example is the larger of the two. It's a fascinating find and a beautiful object."<BR/><BR/>Now an independent valuation is under way to ascertain the ring's market value, an amount the museum will have to pay the finder if it wants to secure it for display.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=3285132"/>
