Wednesday, 27th October 2004 (4011 views) A pen once owned by the pioneer of shorthand, Sir Isaac Pitman, has sold for over £700 at auction.<BR/><BR/>The pen, which had a gold nib, was thought to be worth around £80 to £120, but sold for much more.<BR/><BR/>The item was part of an auction at Bonhams and was part of a host of items from his home.<BR/><BR/>A Bonhams spokeswoman told BBC News Online: "The sale was well attended and we had phone bids from as far afield as Singapore.<BR/><BR/>"We expected a great deal of interest, particularly as he was such a well-known local figure, but I have to say the sale exceeded our expectations," she added.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=3724264"/>
