Storms wash up golden findsThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Wednesday, 24th November 2004 (3926 views) A host of lost gold class rings have been discovered in the US, revealed along the coast in Florida where hurricanes had churned up huge stretches of sand.

According to Associated Press, the shores of Daytona Beach have now revealed gold rings, which are 40 years old and were once owned by residents as a keepsake of their high school years.

A number of rings were discovered by a modern-day prospector, simply using a metal detector to search sand stripped of several layers by storms.

Larry Mitchell, who lost his ring on spring break of 1964, said: "It was just a real big shock for me. That's 40 years. You just don't expect something to turn up."

Surprisingly, a number of the rings found have been described as being "just like brand new", despite being buried in so much sand and open to salt water.
