Thursday, 25th November 2004 (5991 views) Jewellers in China are turning to white gold rather than platinum, for the first time in five years.<BR/><BR/>According to China Daily, jewellers are planning to buy less than one million ounces of platinum this year due to an increasing popularity in gold and falling profit margins.<BR/><BR/>A number of jewellery manufacturers have begun using white gold and palladium as replacements.<BR/><BR/>Platinum firm Johnson Matthey has claimed that the drop in platinum this year will be "entirely due to lower purchases by Chinese jewellery manufacturers".<BR/><BR/>Significant volumes of white gold and palladium first began to be used by jeweller manufacturers in the first quarter of this year.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7157018"/>
