Bulgaria makes another ancient jewellery discoveryWednesday, 8th December 2004 (3197 views) Following the discovery of a host of Thracian treasures, excavation in Bulgaria has uncovered more ancient gold.Two gold earrings have been discovered near the Black Sea city of Nessebar, according to Sofia News Agency. According to information on the jewellery it belonged to a woman buried during the Hellenic period IV-III century BC. Archaeologists from the Nessebar Museum were surprised by the discovery, claiming that the quality of the metal was particularly high at 24 carats. The earrings have a lion's head on them and are thought to have been made by an extreme professional. Further excavation work is expected to uncover more jewellery in the area and from the period.
