Monday, 20th December 2004 (7837 views) One of Celtic football club's greatest ever players has joined an exclusive group of international statesmen and role models, being given the golden touch in the form of a commemorative set of Faberge eggs.<br/><br/>The prestigious items of jewellery are designed as a tribute to certain individuals, and are fashioned by craftsmen whose forefathers created the gifts for Russian Tsars.<br/><br/>Made out of gold, diamonds and platinum, the latest luxury pieces are being sent to Celtic football legend Jimmy Johnstone in recognition of his tireless work on motor neurone disease, joining eminent figures including Nelson Mandela and Mikhail Gorbachev.<br/><br/>Mr Johnstone has been battling motor neurone disease for many years and says he plans to use the money generated by the eggs to help fund stem cell research into the issue.<br/><br/>Johnstone's egg is worth around £10,000 and will depict him kicking a football as part of a set of nine limited editions indicating the nine consecutive league titles the player won with Celtic.<br/><br/>"It's a great honour, not just for me but for Scotland and also for football," he commented.<br/><br/>A further 44 eggs will be produced made of gold, enamel and crystal in order to celebrate the year of Johnstone's birth, 1944.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7366373"/>
