Wednesday, 22nd December 2004 (6280 views) A collection of jewellery designers, goldsmiths and students have come together to take part in the HRD Awards - a biennial jewellery contest that is designed to help young designers.<br/><br/>According to Diamonds.net, 490 artists took part in the competition, providing 850 designs for a professional jury.<br/><br/>The competition in Brussels allows jewellery companies to sponsor some of the selected designs, with entries firstly cut down to 48 finalists.<br/><br/>This year's theme was 'FUN' and artists as usual were allowed free rein over their pieces, with a key aim of the event to boost creativity and design excellence in contemporary jewellery.<br/><br/>Finalists come from a range of countries, including China, India and France and are competing for 5,000.<br/><br/>Finished pieces have to be submitted by March 25 next year, with items judged on craftsmanship, innovation and enthusiasm.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7385641"/>
