The owner of a jeweller in Singapore has found a rather luxurious way to reward workers at Christmas time.

Madam Irene Ong, whose husband owns the 'Felin Jewelry' chain stores, has so far given worker Lilian Baccay around $5,000 worth of jewellery as presents.

Over the last six Christmases, Ms Baccay has received eight gold bangles, six gold rings and pendants and a diamond ring.

In addition, she has also been given five pairs of gemstone earrings and three pairs of jade earrings.

According to Asia One, the value of the jewellery is enough to buy a piece of land in the Philippines where Ms Baccay originates.

After seeing how pleased the 27-year-old was after receiving the first piece of jewellery they gave her, Madam Ong and her mother decided to carry on buying jewellery at Christmas, birthdays and the Chinese New Year.

"I was very happy and very touched by her generosity. That (whole) day, I kept touching and feeling the gold earrings on my ears. I just wanted to make sure that they were still there," Ms Baccay said.

"In the past, I got only hugs and kisses during Christmas, now I get gold as well as hugs and kisses," she added.

Sending home her wages to help her family, the jewellery is hoped to offer something for Ms Baccay to keep for herself, although she has already saved up money and bought gold earrings and a gold chain for her three sisters.
