Thursday, 27th January 2005 (5860 views) China's gold production has reached a new record, with 212.35 tonnes of the precious metal produced in 2004.<br/><br/>According to the China Gold Association, the Shandong Province in East China still remains the largest gold producing area in the country and achieved 64.5 tonnes of gold output last year.<br/><br/>A China Gold Association official told Xinhuanet: "Growth of China's gold industry faces a golden opportunity. <br/><br/>"China has a huge population of 1.3 billion and the Chinese economy grows very fast." <br/><br/>Other key areas included Fujian, Liaoning, Henan, Hebei and Shaanxi.<br/><br/>China is now the fourth largest gold producer and consumer, according to the association.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7657993"/>
