Thursday, 10th February 2005 (4378 views) The discovery of gold items in London's sewers may help to support new plans to upgrade them.<br/><br/>According to the FT, the environmental audit committee has called for a long-term solution to be introduced to stop the River Thames' overflow and pollution problems.<br/><br/>Many have argued the sewers are in too bad a state, but after inspecting some Victorian trunk sewers under London, many were found to be in surprisingly good condition.<br/><br/>Kenny Young, who works as a Thames Water "flusher", revealed that some were in such good condition that gold jewellery and coins that went out of circulation in the 70s, have been found there.<br/><br/>Thames Water aims to update the 19th century sewerage system as part of its investment priorities over the next five years, during which a number of possible discoveries could be made.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7772935"/>
