America's traditional gold rush region in the west of the country is preparing for a new influx of fortune seekers as prospects for the precious metal continue to rise.<br/><br/>With gold's price continuing to rise, prospectors are once again looking at sites in the west.<br/><br/>Greg Visconty, a mining geologist who covers three national forests in Oregon, told Associated Press that there were signs the rush was about to return.<br/><br/>"In the past year mining claims have just about doubled," he said.<br/><br/>"A lot of people just enjoy mining. Some are trying to make a living at it," he added.<br/><br/>Mr Visconty said that interest suddenly spiked as the price of gold approached the $400.<br/><br/>With modern operations refining the profit margin necessary to make money from finds, the increased value of the precious metal could usher in a new era of gold prospecting.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7852495"/>
