The return of a host of gold jewellery items has been called for by the wife of dead serial killer Harold Shipman.

Over 70 pieces of jewellery include gold brooches, bracelets and plain wedding band style rings were removed from a garage at the Shipman's property during the original investigation.

Primrose Shipman has now asked for police to return all the items seized, but it is thought many of them belonged to victims of her killer husband, according to Manchester Evening News.

Jewellery is thought to be worth around £10,000 and if people do not come forward for the jewellery it will be returned to Mrs Shipman.

Police officers heading the inquiry have now called on over 180 families encouraging them to provide details on any jewellery of their loved ones which may have gone missing after their death.

DS Steve Heywood said: "As part of the police investigation in July 1998, officers seized a large quantity of jewellery from the garage of his home.

"This includes rings, earrings, necklaces, brooches and bracelets, which are of varying estimated values."

Families explained it was not the value of the items that mattered, it is simply the fact they belonged to the victims.
