Friday, 18th March 2005 (5543 views) Following the request from the wife of dead serial killer Harold Shipman to have jewellery returned, a number of victims' families have come forward for the items.<br/><br/>Some 16 families have contacted police to claim gold pieces that police believe were stolen from patients after Dr Shipman killed them. <br/><br/>Manchester police had urged the victims' families to come forward with proof that the jewellery is theirs, before they were forced to return the 70 items to Dr Shipman's widow, Primrose.<br/><br/>Detectives seized £10,000 worth of wedding rings, necklaces and brooches from Dr Shipman's garage shortly after his initial arrest, and his wife has now asked for it back.<br/><br/>A force spokesman said: "Since writing to the families of Dr Shipman's victims in a final attempt to establish if anybody can positively identify any of the items in our possession, we have been contacted by the relatives of 16 of Dr Shipman's victims.<br/><br/>"We will be meeting with them regarding the possible identification of items of jewellery in the near future."<br/><br/>The families will need to supply a receipt, or a photograph or a detailed description of the jewellery before they can claim it back.<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=8062787"/>
