Wednesday, 18th May 2005 (3819 views) Although gold jewellery is usually worn as a sign of wealth, rich consumers are now eating the precious metal and using it on their face to boost their health.<br/><br/>According to Reuters, wealthy Londoners believe that gold has anti-ageing benefits and it is now being used for top-class facials and in expensive meals at London restaurants.<br/><br/>Bruce Alexander, joint owner of the Archipelago restaurant in London's West End, said: "In the last four or five months there has been an upsurge in what people do with gold. We have been using it for many years here -- we try to do something different with food."<br/><br/>According to Mr Alexander gold can help circulation, clear the blood and enhance people's minds when consumed regularly.<br/><br/>A host of dishes at the London eatery contain gold, including melba toast, with shredded foie gras and 24-carat gold leaf and Japanese plum in a jelly containing real gold flakes.<br/><br/>Some restaurant owners such as John McClements from Twickenham's McClements claims that gold also tastes good, particularly when combined with chocolate.<br/><br/>Expensive bars in London are also now selling vodka with specks of gold in and some are looking to introduce champagne with gold flecks in.<br/><br/>Diners can then visit a beauty therapist and experience a gold facial, something first launched in India, or also try new gold cream, gel and masks.<br/><br/>However some have been sceptical as to gold's true benefits.<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=8529825"/>
