Tuesday, 14th June 2005 (6037 views) The south Chinese city of Guangzhou is set to become a major jewellery producer as it tightens up its performance in the jewellery market.<br/><br/>Already one of China's key jewellery processing centres, Guangzhou is now to improve its services at every step of the jewellery production and distribution chain, from the purchase of raw materials to design, authentication, logistics, and exhibitions.<br/><br/>Wang Xialing, the town's vice-mayor, described the measures the city would be taking at the China International Gold, Jewellery & Gem Fair, currently running in Guangzhou until tomorrow.<br/><br/>She said that the city was forging close ties with Hong Kong, as well as fortifying the development of the burgeoning jewellery industries in Panyu, Huadu and Conghua districts.<br/><br/>Two centres in the Guangzhou region will enhance its prestige in the jewellery industry, according to officials. <br/><br/>The Worldmart Jewellery & Gem Emporium Centre, about to open in Panyu, will support trade, exhibitions, design, authentication, information, logistics and finance.<br/><br/>The Guangzhou Weile Jewellery Industrial Park will operate on the retail side, aiming to attract prestigious, reputable gold, jewellery and gemstone companies to its site.<br/><br/>According to official data, Guangzhou's exports of gold, jewellery and gemstone items were worth US $1.38 billion in 2004.<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=8743568"/>
