The coins we are striking here are symbolic of Luthuli's role in the Freedom Charter. So this is to amalgamate his striving for freedom. These coins are the beginning of a new series for South Africa's Nobel Prize winners."

Dr Albertina Luthuli, Mr Luthuli's daughter, was at the ceremony on behalf of her family.

The exclusive set is made up of two gold coins minted with a mint mark celebrating the 50th anniversary of the SA Freedom Charter.

There are 400 of the coins available.
