Sharapova sports gold at ESPY awardsFriday, 15th July 2005 (4585 views) Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova ditched her sweaty cap and wristbands for something a bit more glamorous at this year's Annual ESPY Awards.The ceremony that celebrates sporting achievements voted the young Russian the best women's tennis player. She strutted along the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood sporting a gold serpent armlet wrapped around her bicep. "I've never worn anything like this before," she said before the ceremony. Speaking about her low-cut, open-back pantsuit outfit she said: "I don't know what vibe I'm going for today. I'm classy, yet sexy." Among the other winners were Jennie Finch and the US softball team who jointly received the gong for best female Olympic performance. Friday Night Lights picked up the award for best sports movie, beating off competition from Oscar winner Million Dollar Baby. The ceremony, hosted by former Friends actor Matthew Perry, also saw Destiny's Child get an extra member for the night. Tennis star Serena Williams danced onstage with the 'other' three girls to close the night's performance.
