eBay jewellery sales reach $1.5bn in Q2Friday, 22nd July 2005 (4691 views) Jewellery and watch sales represented the tenth highest retail category on internet auction site eBay during the second quarter of 2005.The company said trade in jewellery and watches totalled $1.5 billion during the period. In 2004, total watch and jewellery sales for the entire year amounted to $1.7 billion. Despite the strong trade in trinkets, automobile sales led the value of deals done in any one category, representing $14.3 billion of trade. Clothing and accessories was the next most profitable category, at $3.3 billion. eBay reported a 40 per cent rise in net revenues in quarter two compared to the same period last year, at $1.086 billion. The popular auction site reported a gross profit of $894.5 million, representing 82 percent of net revenues, compared with 81 percent of net revenues in the second quarter of last year. "eBay achieved remarkable results in Q2," said Meg Whitman, eBay's president and chief executive. "Excellent momentum in the US and Germany, as well as at PayPal, all helped deliver an impressive jump in revenues and profit," she added.
