Jackie O's gold brooch to go on displayWednesday, 27th July 2005 (4880 views) Cohasset Jewellers' 22nd annual Estate Jewellery Sale will have massive pulling power, with the announcement that a major gold and platinum piece will be on display.A stunning brooch, crafted in 1910 and featuring 105 small diamonds embedded in a gold base with a platinum façade, will form the centrepiece of the event. The piece, with a carefully moulded and contoured façade making it sparkle from every angle, once belonged to American icon Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, widow of the assassinated President John F Kennedy and fashion idol for a generation of American women. And the gold piece will not only be attracting interest because of its rich history, as it is also a relatively rare brooch due to its age. Many of the techniques used at the time of the creation of the "Jackie O" brooch are no longer used today, meaning that it is a piece of great importance in the jewellery world quite apart from its links with one of the most powerful women in American history.
