Country singer receives golden tributeFriday, 29th July 2005 (4712 views) US country singer Kix Brooks has received a surprise tribute from legend Merle Kilgore. The star reportedly answered a call from Kilgore's widow and was surprised to be presented with chunky gold ring made from some of the manager/songwriter's old jewellery. Merle, who wrote "Ring of Fire" with June Carter, had requested that some of his jewellery was melted down after his death and made into a large, gold ring that spells out K-I-X in large letters. The ring, which matches both Kilgore's and Brooks' bold, brash styles, has a diamond set in the middle, AngryCountry.com reports. Kix said: "Yup, rather than just dotting the I with a chunk of gold. Merle had them set in a diamond. You know, the star goes in the middle so that's what the I is, a great big star with a diamond twinkling out of it. Every time I look down at my knuckle, it's sitting there, sparkling back at me -- and it makes me think of Merle, truly one of the greatest characters this business has ever seen, and smile." "I couldn't have been more surprised -- or moved -- and I promise you, this is something I will wear with pride for a long, long time." Kix's Hillbilly Deluxe is released on August 30th and she and Ronnie Dunn start their Deuce's Wild Tour, featuring duos Big & Rich and the Warren Brothers, on August 5th in Dallas, Texas. The pair play their own, unique style of honky tonk music, with a nod to country greats like Merle Kilgore.
