Walpole Medals of Excellence made of gold are been awarded to Britons who epitomize the best of British in their notable achievements. <br/><br/>Hamilton & Inches, a Scottish jewellery company founded in 1866 which promotes luxury items including gold jewellery, made the medals.<br/><br/>Walpole, the organisation presenting the awards, consists of several British companies drawn from businesses in industry and hotels to fashion and luxury goods.<br/><br/>Its stated aims are that members will use their "combined marketing and commercial skills to promote British excellence as exemplified by the highest standards of quality, style, craftsmanship, creativity, service and innovation".<br/><br/>Gold products could benefit from Walpole's stance as it looks to nurture skilled craftspeople such as jewellers.<br/><br/>This year's recipients of the awards, as reported by the Edinburgh Evening News, included famed crime writer Ian Rankin, Alexander McCall Smith, writer, and Sir Brian McMaster, the Edinburgh Festival director.<br/><br/><br/><img alt="track" src='http://feeds.directnews.org.uk/feedtrack/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=15026927'/>© Adfero Ltd
