Haskie's gold bolo-tie scoops gold again

Four times winner of the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA) award for jewellery, Vernon Haskie has won again.<br/><br/>These awards are made at the Sante Fe Indian Market in New Mexico, which has been held for the past 80 years, and this year there were 243 categories.<br/><br/>Mr Haskie has been particularly successful in recent years and won this year's jewellery prize with a bolo-tie that loosely depicts a human fashioned from gold and turquoise.<br/><br/>He aims to sell his creation for $24,000 and says this is the first time he has used 22-carat gold.<br/><br/>"I don't rush my pieces. I take as much time as I can with them," he told the Free New Mexican.<br/><br/>SWAIA is a non-profit organisation that aims to protect and promote Native American's cultural heritage and arts. <br/><br/>It also awards fellowships, and offers business training seminars and youth markets.<br/><br/><br/><img alt="track" src='http://feeds.directnews.org.uk/feedtrack/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=15027805'/>© Adfero Ltd
