Two tonnes worth of gold ornaments manufactured in Kerala, India were exported last year.<br/><br/>The Indian state has experienced a rise in demand for its products particularly those made in Thrissur, according to the Jewellers Manufacturers' Association (JMA).<br/><br/>The JMA president told the Economic Times, India, that 40,000 people worked in the jewellery sector in Thissur alone where they daily turn 500kg of gold into ornaments.<br/><br/>In the state as a whole 200,000 people are employed in ornament manufacturing, selling and distribution.<br/><br/>India is famed for its high gold consumption and although it imports most of its gold, gold jewellery making within the country is big business.<br/><br/>The government is trying to encourage jewellery manufacturing and recently announced the creation of another SEZ, or special economic zone, near Hyderabad to join the existing two in Mumbai and Calcutta.<br/><br/><br/><img alt="track" src='http://feeds.directnews.org.uk/feedtrack/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=15027944'/>© Adfero Ltd
