Self-purchase leads the trendsThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Monday, 22nd August 2005 (6168 views) Women who buy jewellery for themselves, dubbed 'self-purchasers', have driven the new trend for larger more adventurous pieces.

International Jewellery London has released the findings from its survey, which suggest that self-purchase is on the increase in the UK and has influenced the type of pieces jewellers make.

One case is the upmarket jewellery and luxury goods retailer Hamilton & Inches, which is now stocking larger jewellery items, according to the Scotsman.

Jamie Fraser, managing director of Hamilton & Inches, believes that "women are much braver shoppers when it comes to jewellery than their menfolk. Girls like bolder, more exotic, exquisitely crafted pieces".

This is the reasoning behind its decision to stock H Stern jewellery, which is a particular favourite with stars like Catherine Zeta-Jones.

H Stern, international jewellers, is noted for its fluid golden rope that can be wound around any part of the body to ornament it and measures a lengthy ten feet. It creates statement pieces.

Women are certainly calling the shots as more of them are choosing their own wedding and engagement rings as well as more everyday jewellery. Self-purchase is no longer a guilty secret.

© Adfero Ltd
