Mark Castagnoli's unique style is putting him on the jewellery map.

The part-time prospector, part-time jeweller is putting together different creations that come from a wide range of materials, and the results have been heavier, tougher looking jewellery aimed at men.

For example his gold and silver rings include pieces of dinosaur bones and iron nickel meteorite. Whole pieces of nugget gold are in his rings and belt buckles, an his cufflinks have garnets and kimberlite, a volcanic rock that is usually destroyed when hunting for diamonds.

Mr Castagnoli told the Globe and Mail: "I can always show jewellers something they haven't seen before. I know the prospectors and miners, so when something new is found, I usually get the first look at it."

His company is based in Vancouver, Canada, but his jewellery can be purchased outside of the country on the internet or by phone.
