Goldcorp has just announced that the first gold has been poured on its Amapari mine in Brazil.

On September 23rd ten kilos of gold were poured and a further 50,000 ounces are expected to be produced on the mine during the final few months of the year.

Since Goldcorp acquired the property in January 2004, more than 350,000 tonnes of gold have been mined at a gold grade of 2.5 g/t.

It is estimated that the mine, which has proven and probable reserves of 1.53 million ounces, will produce in excess of 180,000 ounces of gold in 2006.

At Amapari there is an open pittable heap leach oxide deposit in addition to a deeper sulphide deposit.

Brazil is Latin America's leading producer of gold and also has mineral resources of bauxite, nickel, iron ore, platinum, uranium, manganese, tin and phosphates.
