Rajesh Exports has been praised for exporting plain gold jewellery.

The company was recognised in India's 32nd annual Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) awards, which honour achievements in the industry.

Rajesh Exports has proved successful before, winning recognition in each of the 13 preceding years.

Accepting the award, managing director Prasanth Mehta commented: 'As India makes rapid progress in the retail arena, the jewellery market is undergoing a gradual metamorphosis from a store house of value to a fashion accessory bazaar.'

With more people wearing jewellery as a fashion statement, the market for it has grown.

The GJEPC award ceremony was sponsored by India's Ministry of Commerce and took place in Mumbai.
