Tuesday, 22nd November 2005 (5373 views) An important gold coin may be auctioned off in January.According to the Associated Press, Larry Lee, who found the unique gold coin after buying an estate in Alaska, may be auctioning it off. The coin is the only one of its kind known to be in existence out of a total of 762 that were minted in Carson City, Nevada. It has been valued at over $150,000, a large mark-up on the $10 it was worth in the 1800s. If Mr Lee decides to auction the coin he will do so in Orlando, however, he may decide to sell it privately to a collector. A recent sale of a ten-piece gold, silver and copper coin collection raised $8.5 million, reportedly making it the most expensive single lot purchased in numismatic history.
