Monday, 28th November 2005 (5922 views) Jewels 2005 has opened at the Chennai Trade Centre.Organised by Zak Trade Fairs and Exhibitions, the show will feature around 30 jewellery manufacturers from areas like Calcutta, Mumbai, Jaipur, Coimbatore and Chennai. There will be an array of items on offer such as gold bridal jewellery, children's jewellery, antique items and contemporary offerings. Mr Syed Zakir Ahmed, managing director of Zak, said that the items would range in price from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2 lakh. Approximately 30,000 buyers are expected to patronise the event, which was opened by actress Swarnamalya. The event runs from November 26th to 28th and should help to cement Chennai's reputation as a hub of business activity. Chennai has been chosen by South Africa as the site for its second full-fledged consulate and the two countries recently held discussions to see how India could help South Africa to improve its gold manufacturing as, although the world's number one gold miner, it currently imports most of its jewellery.
