The splendour of the Brazilian jewellery industry is set to be revealed to US viewers next year as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) announced plans to showcase traditional and contemporary designs from Brazil.

It will be the GIA's first international jewellery collection and will go on show in Tucson, Arizona and Las Vegas in June 2006.

The collection boasts contributions from top Brazilian designers and manufactures, including Amsterdam Sauer and Cathrine Clarke.

The GIA believes Brazil's unique design culture will pull in the punters and get hearts racing.

"The gem wealth, exuberance, and flora and fauna of this South American country are reflected in each and every piece in this collection," GIA Museum director Elise Misiorowski told Rapaport News.

"These beautiful jewels will inspire all who see them."

Renowned Brazilian designer Cathrine Clarke is contributing a multicolour gold and eroded watermelon tourmaline brooch.

Respected craftsman Hans Stern is also brightening up the collection by providing an 18-carat white gold brooch with diamonds and aquamarine.
