Australian mining company Oxiana has said that it obtained record amounts of gold and copper during the last quarter of 2005.

It said that gold output for 2005 reached 228,002 ounces, boosted by 50.449 ounces obtained in the last three months of the year. 200,370 ounces of 2005's gold came from the firm's flagship gold mine in Sepon, Laos.

Meanwhile Oxiana produced 17,859 tons of copper during the period, producing 53,237 tonnes in 2005. It's Sepon copper plant is expected to ramp up production and produce over 60,000 tons in the next 12 months.

Managing director Owen Hegarty told Australia's Seven News that he was convinced his company will continue to grow during 2006: "It was a good quarter."

"It was finishing four very good quarters of football in 2005 and lays the foundation for an excellent 2006. It will be a better year, a flag year, a premiership for the mighty Ox in 2006." Mr Hegarty is a keen Australian Rules Football supporter.

Oxiana currently operates mining concerns in Laos and Western Australia and has projects and explorations taking place in Prominent Hill.
