Wednesday, 22nd February 2006 (6254 views) Gold and platinum designer mobile phones with ostrich leather cases are on their way to market in India.Luxury handset brand Vertu, a subsidiary of Nokia, believes that the market for high end mobiles is expanding rapidly. Vertu creative director Frank Nuovo said the company is "looking at premium outlets in India which will have the requisite backbone to support a product line like Vertu's designer collection", business-standard.com reports. It is thought that the phones will perform well in a country where more than 1.5 million households earn over Rs 45 lakh per year. The firm expects Indian celebrities to follow the likes of Madonna and David Beckham by snapping up handsets in Vertu's Signature collection. Engineered to the finest standards, Vertu phones are billed as being as much works of art as communication devices. Prices range from around $6,000 to $26,000 and affluent telephonists have the option of yellow or white gold versions. Users will also have access to the worldwide Vertu Concierge service, which provides users with expert information on travel and entertainment at the push of a dedicated key, located on the phone's side.
