Wednesday, 22nd March 2006 (3561 views) Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is to be presented with a gold-plated cricket bat by singer Lata Mangeshkar at a function in Matunga tomorrow. The gold-plated bat is to commemorate the batter's dual achievements of both scoring 35 test centuries a world record and for becoming the most capped Indian test player of all time. A spokesman for the event's organiser, Maratha Krira Patrakar said, "Lata Mangeshkar will present Tendulkar a gold-plated bat" and added that the ceremony will have a "tinge of Marathi culture". The cricketer's family will be in attendance, as will his childhood friend and former India team-mate Vinod Kambli, among others. As well as interviews with current and former players, the function will feature the recital of a poem by the batsman's late father and a short stage production, as the spokesman explained: "Some of those who have studied with Tendulkar are into acting and drama. "They will stage a 15-minute play at the function, the theme being the master batsman himself." 32-year-old Tendulkar will receive the golden bat along with a "manav patra", or scroll, presented by former India captain Ajit Wadekar to honour a new record of 132 tests.
