Gold coins and necklaces are among the artefacts being displayed along with the "bog mummies" at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles.

The Mysterious Bog People exhibit has been touring the world for several years and is now to remain in LA until September. It features six mummies that were discovered in peat bogs in northwestern Europe, as well as various artefacts.

The bodies of the people from the Mesolithic Age were preserved in the dense peat bogs and are displayed with items that span over 10,000 years in age.

Pieces from the Bronze Age include gold jewellery that dates back to about 800BC, Pasadena Weekly reports, while the Iron Age collection features Roman coins and coiled necklaces made from 24-carat gold.

Visitors to the museum will be able to take part in an interactive "laboratory" where you can hone your forensic techniques by joining in a hypothetical bog body examination.
