The Royal Suite at the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai has registered in the recently released Forbes Top Ten of the world's most expensive hotel rooms.

The walls of the hotel lobby are famously decorated with 24-carat gold plating and the exterior of the imposing structure is built to resemble a billowing sail from a traditional Arabian vessel, called a dhow.

The opulent hotel is the tallest building used exclusively for that purpose, and rates itself as a "seven-star" property, despite the officially accepted five-star limit of the certified star rating attributed to hotels around the world.

The suite itself features a rotating bed, private cinema screen, an indoor Jacuzzi and a private elevator service for the person, or persons, lucky enough to be enjoying the hospitality in the Arabian emirate.

The hotel opened its doors to guests in December, 1999 and boasts some of the world's most luxurious leisure facilities, from restaurants built around aquariums, to a helipad situated on the summit of the building.

Rooms vary in price, with the luxury Royal Suite costing between $10,000 and $15,000 a night.
