The Ghanaian Black Stars have received a financial boost for their upcoming World Cup effort in Germany this summer, reports the Graphic Ghana newspaper.

Ghana Gold Fields will sponsor the national football team as it travels to the World Cup Finals for the first time in its history, an effort which has been effectively bankrolled by the company, according to the Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Sports, Osei Bonsu Amoah.

Mr Amoah said that because of the company's generosity, "the entire nation would forever be grateful" before bestowing upon them the title of "Prime Partners in Football Development".

Gold Fields also sponsored the team during the recent African Nations Cup and has urged the country to fully support their national side in the hope that it will improve the image of Ghana as a country and as a team at next month's tournament.
