The Hillgrove gold project in Australia's New South Wales is expected to begin operating again soon, the Tamworth Northern Daily Leader reports.

According to the gold mine's resident manager, Rodney Griffith, between 30 and 40 jobs could be filled by September with up to 100 provided in total by the project.

Hillgrove, near Armidale, is operated by Australian firm Straits Resources, which purchased the property two years ago. Straits believes that the mine has been underexplored until now and that modern mining techniques will help to realise its potential.

The mine could have a six-year life span and produce gold, antimony and tungsten concentrate.

Straits was congratulated on the responsible stance it had taken in the development of the Hillgrove site by Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay.

"The company has invested A$20 million in buying the mine and taking the time to review data and meticulously explore the site," he said.

"In the process it has undertaken considerable environmental rehabilitation, saving a huge cost to the government and the community. It has also contributed significantly to the Hillgrove community and kept the local community regularly informed with developments."
