The latest high-end device in the Wi-Fi technology market, which uses gold-plated internal chips and plugs, is to go on sale in September.

The Transporter, from US company Slim Devices, uses wireless audio streaming to play high-quality audio files taken from your PC or other device used for storing the music.

Expected to retail in this country for between £1,000 and £1,500, the device uses gold-plated connectors and a gold-plated circuit board for the highest in quality sound.

The DAC chip, connected to the circuit board itself is described by the company as a "miracle chip" that, without a hint of hyperbole, will result in "the death of the CD player".

The Transporter supports several of the highest-quality lossless music formats, such as FLAC and WAV and is expected to be a hit among audiophiles and gadget-heads when it is released in the next few months.
