Bogoso Gold to consider infrastructure improvementsThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Thursday, 24th August 2006 (4312 views) Bogoso Gold Limited (BGL), a subsidiary of gold producer Golden Star that operates in Ghana, will look into improving the water supply of a local community, Ghanaweb reports.Local people from the farming community of Brakwaline, which lies in BGL's operational area, had protested that a pipe was discharging effluent into a stream that provided them with water. They also requested that the mine provide a bus to help children reach school, because many faced a long walk. The mine responded by saying that it has laid a pipeline to take water to Brakwaline and that it would consider extending it to some nearby hamlets. It also said that the village was entitled to apply to the community endowment fund provided by Golden Star in order to pay for a school bus. Villagers had also expressed concern that no jobs at the mine had been given to local people. However, BGL said that an employment policy document would consider locals for certain jobs and that a new oil palm plantation would also provide employment. Golden Star is "committed to being a part of the community in which it operates".
