According to Bulgarian news source Darik, several unique Thracian gold treasures have been discovered near the village of Sinemorets in the eastern European country.

The settlement, at the mouth of the Veleka River, is now the focus of much local media attention as archaeological digs continue in a frenzied search for further treasures.

Many of the items are distinctive pieces bearing the unique Mother Earth insignia associated with Thracian artefacts. The ancient Thrace people were known worshippers of the goddess.

Several gold and silver dishes and other ornaments, as well as one distinctive gold crown and a pair of gold earrings, have been unearthed by archaeologists working in the area already.

Local, and now national, interest in the discoveries is such that the police have been drafted in to guard the site and preserve the area around the Bourgas settlement for professional excavation, rather than a possible gold rush.

The discoveries were first made by local construction workers who were digging sand as part of planned building works there.
