Commercial gold has been discovered in Kazakhstan with Frontier Mining at the helm of an exploratory programme in the country's Naimanjal area.

Four gold properties are under investigation by the company including three which run along a 25-kilometre gold and copper trend.

Positive results from the Boskochu property indicate over 19 metres at 4.3 grams of gold per tonne and 24 metres at 5.78 grams of gold per tonne.

Copper is also in abundance with Frontier management estimating that there are about one million tonnes of copper in resource.

Geophysical tests were carried out on four Kazakh properties earlier this year and the company has announced the potential for a gold resource of 141,500 ounces in the area.

Frontier formed in August 1998 and now plans a 10,000-tonne plant with initial production planned for 2009. Brian Savage runs the company and every employee, apart from four executives, is Kazakh.

The Naimanjal area is an old Soviet nuclear testing ground so it has good train links and power lines. It is an open pit oxide deposit and has outcrops at the surface.
